What’s Brewing in the Mountains?

1812 Brewery Outdoor Area

The dog days of summer are winding down, the evenings are getting cooler, and soon enough, the mountainsides will explode with an array of fall colors. And should you find yourself cruising down I-68 taking in some of the best views the Free State has to offer, you’ll want to stop off at the first and only farm brewery in Western Maryland – 1812 Brewery.

Located in Cumberland Maryland, this family-owned brewery nestled in the scenic Appalachian Mountains brings together all the best of the panhandle – impressive rolling hills, dense forests, centuries-old farm structures, and a sense of disconnect that will have you happily placing your phone on silent.

The brewery itself is housed in a repurposed barn dating back to 1812 and retains much of its original charm with its high ceiling, exposed beams, and brick support walls.  There’s also plenty of room to stretch as the property sits on 190 acres, so if you’re looking for fresh air and ample parking, 1812 Brewery has you covered.

Now onto the important stuff – the beer! There’s a diverse selection of high-quality craft brews served year-round in the tasting room, which means there’s something for everyone. A rotation of fruited sours, session IPAs, hazies, porters, stouts, and more speak to the well-rounded offerings. Casual drinkers and craft aficionados alike will find their fair share of options, and why try just one when you can get a flight or two?

As if its idyllic natural surroundings and great beer selection weren’t enough, 1812 Brewery is an all-around perfect venue for relaxation and entertainment. Enjoy the spacious patio seating right in the heart of the property, take in live music, enjoy fare from a food truck, peruse a craft and flea market, catch a car show, or just take in the scenery with friends and family. Seriously, they’ve got it all, so check out their events calendar before you hit the road.
