3 Road Trips to Take With Teenagers
Could your teenager(s) use a break from the pressure of school and social circles? Give them a reason to smile (and get off their phone!) with a surprise vacation. Or, present them with a few options and let them do the planning! Use our ideas for road trips to take with teenagers as a jumping-off point for your next family adventure:
Sleep in a treehouse in Western Maryland!
Latte-art-loving teens will enjoy a stop at Clatter Café, a trendy spot just off the main strip in Frostburg. Score extra points by treating them to a book or journal (or stickers!) at Main Street Books.
Stay at Ella’s Enchanted Treehouses, an unforgettable place to unplug and connect as a family. Stock up on games and s’mores supplies before you come—there’s no cable or Wi-Fi.
Ready to play? Wisp Mountain Resort tons of activities, from skiing, snowboarding, and tubing to a mountain coaster, zip line challenges, and more!
Get on the water at Deep Creek Lake. Rent wave runners, kayaks, or a pontoon boat from FunTime Watersports. Heads up: teens must be 16 to operate a wave runner.
Camp on the beach on the Eastern Shore!
Load the car up with everything you need to camp at Assateague State Park, where you’re bound to spot wild ponies. There are plenty of places to stop along the drive to the beach. Try the meatballs at Ava’s in Cambridge—you won’t be disappointed, and/or make a stop at Mandala Pies in Vienna (possibly the tiniest pie shop in Maryland).
There’s also a variety of shopping and dining options as you approach the park. Grab acai bowls and pick out souvenirs at Assateague Island Surf Shop.
Rent bikes, canoes, and kayaks at Assateauge Outfitters, or sign up for their kayak Wildlife Discovery Tour.
Stay across the street from a stadium in Baltimore!
Surprise your teens with tickets to a Major League Baseball or National Football League game! Do yourself a favor by picking a hotel within walking distance of the stadium. Hilton Baltimore Inner Harbor is across the street from Oriole Park at Camden Yards and a 12-minute walk to M&T Bank Stadium.
You’ll already score big between a ball game and the hotel’s indoor pool, but there are plenty more thrills in and around the city. Hop on electric scooters in the Inner Harbor and ride along the Waterfront Promenade to Fells Point.
Plot out a plan to try new-to-you international dishes, search for the best burger in Baltimore, or chow down on crab pizza at the city’s oldest pizzeria. Teens with a need for speed will love racing electric go-karts at Autobahn Indoor Speedway, located a short drive away in Jessup, Maryland.
